FAQ Social Play Groups & Other Services
When do you offer social play groups ?
Group sessions are available Monday to Friday after 3:00 PM and on Saturdays. Weekday sessions are often held at 3:30 or 4:30 PM and are designed to accommodate participate availability and preferences. Weekend sessions are held every Saturday between 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
What ages do you work with?
We facilitate groups for preschoolers, children and teens between the ages 2 – 14. Each session’s structure and activities will vary slightly depending on the age group.
How many members are in each social play group?
Many individuals thrive in a small group setting. Group sizes typically range from three to four. Groups are designed to recognize individual strengths and needs.
Why are play-based activities used to faciliate social skills?
Play is intrinsically motivating and fosters participation, connection, and communication, which helps us encourage and enhance specific skills.
Does my child have to be autistic to attend?
No. We welcome and support all children, though many of our clients are autistic or neurodiverse.
Do you provide any other services?
We can assist with navigating Autism Funding Unit, writing JFEs, accessing grants and other community-based resources, advocacy, person centered support, locating additional service providers, and more.
How long is a session?
Each session is 70 minutes.
I’m interested in registering my child for a social play group. What are the next steps?
You can contact us through our website or email kidsconnectburnaby@gmail.com. Before your child is registered, we require a completed intake form and will discuss potential group placement recommendations.
How does billing work?
We are on the Registry for Autism Service Providers (RASP) and can directly bill Autism Funding Unit (AFU). Our services also qualify CKNW Kid’s Fund, Jordan’s Principle, and Distributed Learning funds.
